NICABM – How To Diagnose And Treat OCD
How to Diagnose and Treat OCD (including its many subtypes) an obsessive man correcting a crooked ocd letter
The classic signs of OCD (like rituals, compulsive checking, contamination fears, and an intense need for symmetry or order) are often easy to spot. But OCD isn’t always so obvious.
There are many subtypes that have lesser-known symptoms. This means the disorder can be missed completely – or worse, mistaken for ADHD, panic disorder, identity crisis or psychosis.
Beyond that, we need to be careful about how we approach working with OCD. That’s because traditional talk therapy can often miss the mark (or make a client’s symptoms worse).
So to help you better identify and work with the many distinct subtypes of OCD, we developed this brand-new workshop . . .
How to Diagnose and Treat OCD
In this workshop, Jenny Yip, PsyD will dive into the core features of OCD so you can better recognize it in your clients. She’ll also share evidence-based interventions that can help you treat it.
Here’s the agenda:
- Specific OCD subtypes and their symptoms
- Common misdiagnoses that clients get when they actually have OCD
- Evidence-based treatments that help interrupt OCD cycles
- How to tailor Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to specific OCD “rules”
- How families can inadvertently reinforce a client’s OCD (and strategies to interrupt those patterns)
- Common misconceptions about OCD that can misdirect treatment
